Check out the song:
Here’s some lyrics for you.
Mae ranks on the top of my favorite bands of all time list, hands down even topping my top 5. Ever since I heard the Everglow, I fell in love with the evolving group of amazing musicians.
Mae is constantly reshaping their sound while keeping the same musicianship and message that makes the band what it is. This was no exception on the band’s latest release, part of a 12-month project, titled (m)orning. (read a blog post about it here).
My favorite cut off the EP is title The Fisherman Song because the story the song tells is something I feel we can all relate to.

The message of Mae‘s lead vocalist/guitar Dave Elkins are inescapable…
But all you need is faith, and hope will bring a brighter day
And every time you love, let it lift someone else up…
So what does the band mean?

To be completely honest, I have been completely obsessed with this track for the past couple weeks. The instrumentation is amazing on this EP and this track boasts the band’s ability to write amazing music.
The Fisherman Song tells the story in first-person of what seems to be songwriter/frontman Dave Elkins and his battle to finish writing a song. The story takes the songwriter to the shore where he meets a fisherman that changes his life.
The song takes form of a ballad I think we can all learn from. The lyrics to this song tell more than a personal story they speak an amazing message.
Elkins writes…
So have some faith, you say, and hope will find its way
Well I doubt what you’re sure of, and it seems to me the greatest of these is love…
What’s your faith in?
Whether you are a spiritual person or not is not what I am necessarily asking. I am asking where you do you place your faith in this world.
I love the phrase he uses saying “have some faith, and hope will find its way” then Elkins alludes Scripture, “the greatest of these is love…” (1 Cor. 13:13)
What a powerful statement out of faith, hope, and love, love surpasses all. Whether you believe that Scripture is divine, you cannot deny the power of this statement. The concludes the song by stating that we all need love.
We should never stop loving…
Though this may seem so simple, really think about hoe much you love. Does your love have an end or do you love everyone and everything as the One who changed the world forever did?
One lyric that really hits me in this song is when Elkins professes…
All that I could say is that it’s so hard to love.
The way that You always do…
The One I follow came to this earth and loved everyone, even those who wanted Him dead. People that is amazing love.
How amazing would this world be if we all loved this way?
But why is it so hard for us to love like this. As we walk through our life, we let self-absorption and distractions keep us from concentrating on the backbone of life, Love.
We all need love, but it doesn’t stop there, we all need to love…
Because our love can change the world!
